Tailored to Perfection

Earlier this summer, a friend of ours found a gorgeous jumpsuit for a relatively inexpensive cost and like so many of us would, she bought it immediately. The only problem was that it was a bit too big in one size, but way too small in the next size down. She would be taking a gamble as to whether or not she would stay covered up in either size, but the pattern was too bold and too beautiful to pass up. And so, unable to resist the jumpsuit, and yet unable to wear it off the rack, our friend experienced a game-changing revelation: she could get it tailored.

The simple truth is that we are not all built the same – and yet our clothing tends to act like we are. Sure, sizes range from store to store and we have all found one or two places we know will have sizes that fit us best, but what about those times when you fall somewhere in the middle? Or when a pair of pants fits perfectly except for in that one stubborn spot? Or when your height means that you don’t get to show off those sun-kissed gams?! Each and every one of those scenarios can cause you to walk away from shirts, jackets, pants, skirts and dresses that you really and truly love!

It’s ok to admit that you’re still thinking about some of them. Sigh.

And so, here is our reminder to all of you lovely people that you are not the problem! Our bodies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, which means that clothing may not always fit us perfectly. However, we can still enjoy the feeling of a perfectly fitted jacket even when the pattern wasn’t made just for us. Bring on the tailors!

“Tailoring” as a term dates all the way back to the 13th century, but in the 18th century, “tailoring” really started to refer to the kinds of sewing techniques still in use today. Sure, some of the technology has changed, but the goal of making people look amazing has stayed the same.
