Cool suits that won’t make you sweat

Perhaps it’s because we dry clean suits and are around them all day or perhaps it’s because we simply love how polished a suit looks, but we happen to believe the mantra that it is much better to show up overdressed than underdressed. This can be discouraging for the men whose first experience with formal wear was a polyester rental suit, a tie that matched their date’s dress, and a sincere lack of personality – trust us, we shudder too – but let us show you just how good a good suit can look.

Because we’re heading into warmer months (fingers-crossed!), we’ve rounded up some of our favourite summer suits for those of you who are grooms, groomsmen, attending weddings, or just in the market for something really great to wear on any given day.

So, whether it’s for work, for play, or for some special event this summer, if you haven’t already stepped out into the wonderful world of suits, we encourage you to make this your year! Here are some of our top suiting tips to get you started:

1. Play around with colour

Men Style Fashion

There’s no better time than summer to be bold with your suit choice. The warm weather pairs naturally with pastels, bright jewel tones, and crisp whites.  If these shades aren’t what you’re naturally drawn to, we urge you to ditch the dark and take a chance this summer!

2. Experiment with styling

The great part about a well-fitted suit is that with a little thought and styling, it can go straight from day to night, and back again.

Looking right at home whether at brunch or at the altar, lighter, softer summer suit fabrics are incredibly versatile. For a less formal take, roll the pant cuffs up, put on some casual footwear, and wear a tee underneath instead of a button-up. To smarten things up, button that jacket up and then pair your suit with a tie and a pocket square.

Side note: Versatility is one of the greatest reasons why we believe it is always worth it to invest in your suits – especially when it comes to your wedding. With proper care, a good suit will serve you well for many occasions to come. Grooms everywhere, take note!

3. Go for breathable

It seems like such an obvious point, but we really feel it’s worth mentioning suit fabrics. If you are getting married, or attending any sort of formal event, this summer, you don’t need to sacrifice comfort for style or visa versa. You can dress the part while staying cool in a linen, pure cotton, or seersucker suit.

Let’s all say a collective “No!” to polyester this year.

4. Make the investment

We already mentioned this point briefly, but we’re repeating it in more detail: it is absolutely worth investing in good suits. You don’t have to spend thousands, but hundreds will be a good idea. Think of a suit as a cornerstone to your closet. It’s a piece you will build countless outfits with and, when taken care of properly, it will last.

Specifically, consider the investment of the summer suit. Lighter, airier, and more colourful, we guarantee you will gravitate to this choice on a warm summer’s evening out or to wear to a mid-day wedding in August.

Bonus Inspiration for Grooms

Grooms! With all of the choices you have these days, there is no reason why you can’t have some fun with what you wear on your big day – just like your bride will. This is your perfect excuse to find a suit that fits your personality and showcases your classiest side to the world. Before we go, here are some of our favourite summer wedding options.
