PARKERS ELIMINATES PLASTIC BAGS
AND GOES GREEN IN TORONTO
TORONTO, APRIL 20/10 – Embracing a proactive approach to environmental responsibility, as the 40th Anniversary of Green Day approaches, Parkers Custom Clothing Care has taken another step in the greening of its operations by introducing eco-friendly reusable fabric bags for shirts and garments, replacing most plastic bags.
“We believe in the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle,” says Parkers President Gary Fine. “Reusable bags are being introduced to eliminate single-use plastic.”
Now, Parkers makes it easy for Greater Toronto Area consumers to do their part. When customers bring in dirty shirts, they will have their clean, hand-finished items returned in Parkers’ signature blue reusable cloth bag. The same will happen with clothing garment bags.
“Every time a bag is returned, it is cleaned for our customers before being reused,” Fine says. “We spent lots of time developing the bags until we came up with one that will withstand at least 10 washes and still look great. These fabric sacks were carefully designed to be as practical as possible. From our perspective, we expect to significantly reduce our waste.”
Fine points out that the bags create a win-win “for our customers and us. Customers will find it handy to have a dedicated bag for their soiled shirts and clothing. Plus, the bags benefit the environment.”
Parkers Custom Clothing Care is Toronto’s oldest, and one of Canada’s oldest dry cleaners, founded in Ottawa in 1876.
Last Fall, Parkers became the first dry cleaner in Canada, and among the first in the world, to install the environmentally friendly Solvair™ Cleaning System, which uses environmentally friendly solvent for exceptional cleaning results and has proven highly successful in the U.S.
Parkers not only implemented this system into their business, but also took the initiative to promote Solvair and engage customers to jump on board with this green movement.
Fine added, “The ultimate goal for Parkers is to regularly introduce new programs to ensure that we and our customers continually become more eco-friendly”.
