Alcantara is Sustainably Luxurious

It’s rare to find a fabric that’s just as at home on car seats as it is on evening gowns, but following in leather’s footsteps, the Italian fabric Alcantara might just become a favourite for sustainable fashionistas. Carbon neutral since 2009, the Alcantara Company is responsible for this uniquely versatile and manmade fabric, boasting that they are completely eco-friendly. Carbon neutral fabric manufacturing isn’t something anyone in the fashion industry hears every day.

Alcantara has a faux leather texture and has been adopted by some of the biggest luxury brands in the world, thanks to its durability. You can find Alcantara in Lamborghinis, Maseratis, and BMWs – just to name a few.

But even though the polyester and polyurethane composite is often used in cars (including Formula One racecars), its softness is what draws designers to use Alcantara as a suede alternative. We’re even seeing it on smartphone and tablet covers because it feels so nice to the touch!

It’s an Aston Martin. We don’t even know what else to say.
