Toronto Shopkeepers’ Fall Fashion Picks

In our opinion, shopkeepers are underused experts. You know how that super stylish person at your favourite boutique wears everything you wish you owned and puts it all together in ways you would never have thought of? They have some serious fashion expertise.

Shopkeepers are often fountains of fashion knowledge and can certainly offer more than their opinion about whether or not you look best in the blue or the red sweater. We’re glad that Toronto Life agrees and recently asked some of Toronto’s fashionable shopkeepers which fall items they are most excited to be stocking in their stores. We’ve picked our favourites to share with you and will also pass along what they told Toronto Life about these items.

The next time you’re in one of these stores, ask the shopkeeper more about how they curate what appears on the racks and how they suggest pairing different items they sell. You’ll be glad that you got the inside scoop!

This 1920s Cloche from Lilliput Hats was on Karyn Ruiz’s list because, as she says, it’s “A terrific retro style with a touch of asymmetry.”

Langton Willms from Gerhard Supply chose the Muttonhead wool pants, which he describes as, “Slim, cute and heavy weight – the ultimate winter trouser.”

This Thom Browne pullover from Contraband will be perfect as the weather cools down a little. Christopher Casuga tells us to, “Wear this beautiful piece over an oxford or on its own.”

In the summer, we see a lot of silk and satin, but as soon as fall hits, our custom clothing care professionals start seeing heavier fabrics like wool coming in for cleaning. As a friendly reminder, make sure that you’re taking proper care of your wool sweaters so that they keep their shape throughout the fall and winter. As we said in our post about dry cleaning labels, when in doubt, bring your clothing in for us to clean!
