What to wear on the water

Whether you’re all about hopping on a little sailboat while at the cottage or you’re planning a big trip to the ocean this summer, boats tend to bring out the fashionistas in all of us. Yes, some people go overboard on nautical themed outfits (see what we did there?), but there are actually a lot of different ways to style yourself to be seaworthy.

Practically, you’ll need to consider things like wind and sun exposure, but once those two boxes are ticked, you have a world of options available. Men, if you feel like you’ve been wanting a departure from your regular fashion routine, nautical wear is a great place to test the waters (we can’t help it).

3 ways to incorporate nautical trends into your look:

Stripes

White and navy horizontal stripes are likely the first thing you think of when picturing the perfect sailing outfit. We couldn’t agree more. Try mixing it up by choosing patterns with a nod to the classic nautical stripe, but with a little variation.

White pants or a white button up are both part of the nautical look and both also can be incorporated into daily life to bring a little ocean freshness to your closet.

While we’re talking about white clothing, we should probably mention that we are dry cleaners in the GTA. Taking up an outdoor activity where white pants are expected? You’ll need us.

Deck Shoes

If you’re actually planning on sailing, light soled shoes with good grips are necessary. But if you’re really just interested in some awesome deck shoes, that’s also allowed. On or off the boat, deck shoes bring a certain prep factor into your outfit.

There’s a reason that the nautical look comes back time and time again. It features classic colours, simple patterns, and an overall summery fresh feeling.
