Ah, summer. We are barreling towards the city’s favourite time of the year (I don’t think anyone would dare to argue with us) and with it, some of our favourite fashions are hitting the streets. Even though we love a good jumpsuit or pair of palazzo pants, when it comes to women’s summer fashion, we always reach for our go-to dresses. We all know that Toronto tends to get hot and humid, so a dress is a perfect way to beat the heat while looking a little more put together. So, whether you’re heading up to the cottage or sitting on one of the many patios in the city, these three dresses have you covered.

The Maxi
A maxi is easily the most versatile summer dress we own. Equally suitable for the beach or a post-sun meal, it’s a summer staple and this year, we’re loving this style we’re seeing everywhere with thin straps and pockets.

Off the Shoulder Dress
The boho look always comes out in the summer and this year, it’s in the form of off the shoulder dresses like these. We’ve seen a lot of beautiful off the shoulder dresses with vertical blue and white stripes, but our Pinterest boards are especially full of embroidered versions like this one.

Short but professional
When you live in Toronto, you can’t get through the summer without a few professional dresses you can wear for a meeting and also for a date. The general rule we use to strike the perfect balance between professionalism and date-worthy is to pair a fairly short skirt with a high neckline and sleeves that cover your shoulders.
