Stains to Make you Shudder
Tomorrow is Halloween, but we’d bet that you’ve already had your costume on and took it out for a spin this weekend. We hope that you had a blast and that you’ve worked out any kinks for the big day tomorrow, especially if you’re taking your kids out trick-or-treating. It’s like running a marathon in a snowsuit!
We’re going to show you some of our favourite kids costumes we’ve seen around Instagram this month, but before we do, we need to do our duty as your dry cleaners with this little public safety announcement.
3 Scary Halloween Stains
Almost all Halloween stains fall under three categories and unfortunately, all three are rough on your costumes.
- 1. Sugar-based stains – These are your standard candy stains. Whether you’re chomping down on a candy apple or fell asleep while eating a chocolate bar, your costume will almost definitely have some sugar stains on it in the morning. Now, sugar is tricky because even if you think you got it in time, it will come back to haunt you. Sugar tends to stick around and reappear by yellowing fabrics if not treated properly, so follow your costume’s care instructions and give it a good wash or dry clean.
- 2. Makeup stains – Halloween isn’t a time to hold back, so go to town with your fake blood, dark eyeliner, and full body paint. Just make sure that you pay attention to what each product is made out of and then care for your costume accordingly. For example, a water based paint might not give you too much trouble, but grease paint will be another story. If your costume includes a precious garment, make sure you bring it to your dry cleaner and talk to us about what you think the stain is from so that we can treat it properly.
- 3. Dirt – Get a bunch of kids to run around town in costumes that almost always reach the ground and you’ll find yourself dealing with good ol’ dirt stains. These are often the easiest to handle, but if you are having trouble or if the costume isn’t machine washable, schedule for us to come pick up your Halloween costumes and then we’ll return them to you sans candy, make-up, and dirt stains!
