Toronto Fashion Blogger Spring Round-up

May 10, 2019

When it comes to our wardrobes, we always feel a little lost and directionless in the Toronto springtime. Something about the wishy-washiness of the weather tends to take the fun out of dressing — just a little bit. That is, until we remember to reframe the season as a fashion challenge, rather than a style obstacle. Spring weather offers the opportunity to layer multiple lighter garments, test-drive your upcoming summer dresses by adding a pair of tights or tall boots, and extend your favourite winter pieces by rolling up pant cuffs or ditching socks from your look.

We find that the key is to absorb some springtime fashion inspiration from our city’s most fabulous experts: Toronto’s fashion bloggers and style Instagrammers. If anyone knows how to dress for the weather while still looking fab for days, it’s these stylish women.

Take it away, ladies…

Let’s face it, when living in Toronto, we never know when a smidge more snow might come our way. Negin Tavana has clearly mastered that in-between style we all crave right now: delicious baby blue pants with a crisp white top to match the bright blue spring skies, paired with a soft and cozy faux fur coat to cut the last of the chill in the air.

Mel of Mel Inspired channeled the upcoming summertime sunshine in the buttery yellow outfit she wore to the Utopia Popup earlier this spring. Her cropped-pant yellow suit gets an extra touch of cool from the graphic tee layered below the blazer. And of course, the Singing in the Rain vibes are more than appropriate.

In sticking with the umbrella theme, we’re loving this sky blue striped look on Nicole Bautista. It’s all about balance this season, so the high neckline and long sleeves are balanced by a touch of bare leg.

Soft pastels on Jessica Lam: washed blue denim (with those rolled cuffs we promised), a delicate white camisole, and the softest looking blush leather jacket. This is exactly how to sneak some summer staples into your spring wardrobe: layering is the ticket!

Whoa, does this tee have a cape? Sign us up. Zaheera Mohammed roots her style in the modest fashion movement (generally that means pieces that are less revealing) and her looks are always deeply classy with a side of cool. We love the combo of skinny denim with frayed edges, paired with the high-low navy blue top layered over a white tee.

Springtime in Toronto is a close match for year-round Seattle weather: a bit grey, a bit chilly, with some bright sunny days sprinkled in. Eunice Wong took her Toronto-cool style on a west coast tour featuring wide-leg black denim, creamy outerwear, gold accessories, and an always-appropriate knit toque to weatherproof any look.

It’s always wise to do some layering in spring: toss a blazer or jacket (we love this houndstooth one worn by Chloe Zhang) over a casual tee and some skinny jeans. The result is a look that works in a casual office setting or for those first after-work patio drinks of the season.

Weather appropriate, office appropriate, date appropriate, and even springtime wedding appropriate, this sleek navy jumpsuit with tiered sleeves and fun cut-outs makes for a surprisingly well-rounded piece. Krystin Lee of Suburban Faux-Pas dressed up the look with silver and blush accessories, plus the obligatory mirrored shades to keep it cool in the springtime rays.
