Summer has officially begun! With last week’s solstice celebrations complete, we are off and running, kicking off our shoes and barreling into the season. We’ve replaced umbrellas with sun hats, rain boots with sandals, and lattes with frappuccinos. Summer, we’ve missed you.

We already posted about ways to transform your wardrobe to suit the heat, but let’s talk about what to do about your home. How do you dress your house for summer?

Here are a handful of tips to take advantage of summer and reflect the season in your home.

Be inspired by the sun

One of the best parts about summer is the long, sun-filled days. Brighten up the fabric in your window coverings to reflect the bright days. Swap dark coloured pillows for brighter and more playful shades.

Because we’re dry cleaners and we care about fabrics, we can’t help but take a minute to ask you to pay attention to which fabrics are receiving direct sunlight in your home. To avoid any major sun bleaching, do your best to protect these fabrics during the hours of the day that they’re exposed to the sun.

Flowers, flowers, and more flowers

Spring and summer are great seasons for wild floral arrangements around the house. Let what’s happening outside make its way into your home. Use a variety of interesting vases and glass containers to hold casual bunches of flowers. The more they look like you picked them from your garden, the better.

Lighten up your bedding

We’re always amazed by how summery a bedroom can look when it has a bright duvet and soft accent pillows. If you live anywhere near Toronto, you’ll also need to switch from your heavy winter duvet to a lighter one.

Don’t forget to get us to dry clean it before you do, though! We did a whole post about spring cleaning, but I’ll skip right to the bedding part and tell you that after we clean your bedding, we’ll even put it all into breathable storage bags so that you’ll be ready to go when the weather gets cold again. Our deepest apologies for mentioning the word “cold” so soon into summer.

Take the party outside

The number of beautiful outdoor fabrics in existence is incredible. They’re super durable and are often the perfect way to bring the comfort of the indoors out into the fresh air.
