Why you should always listen to what your drycleaner tells you

For the last 15 years I have been working for Toronto’s oldest dry cleaners, Parkers Custom Clothing Care, and for years I have been preaching to customers and friends on how important it is not to treat a stain yourself and how you should take your garment in as soon as possible, so the experts can take care of it. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve told this to people. But, what I can do, is point out someone who didn’t follow this advice – me.

On my way home from work a couple of weeks ago; I stopped at a drive thru. Tried to eat and drink while driving (yes, I know it’s wrong) and sure enough I spilled my full glass of root beer all over my beige wool coat. I knew enough to only blot the stain and not rub it or use water, but I forgot an important part – take it in to Parkers Cleaners so the pros can remove the stains.
Instead I left it draped over a chair in my house for weeks on end.

By the time I went to take my wool coat in, the brown colouring from the root beer was nice and visible and my coat was extremely hard and crunchy. I was sure it was headed straight for the trash.
