Spring is slowly arriving, which means you’re well into your spring-cleaning, right? We all know how to organize a closet or clean under the refrigerator, but do you know how to make sure that your household fabrics are their freshest?

We’re always happy to take in your well-loved fabrics and bring them back to life, but in between visits, here are our tips for keeping your household fabrics clean, dust free, and smelling like spring.

1. Allow your fabrics to breathe

Have you ever reached into a box of clothing you’ve saved to find that it smells stale? As you’re packing up winter fabrics, remember that air is the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to infuse freshness. If you’re switching your heavier comforter for a lighter one, let the new one air out before you use it.

That’s why, whenever we clean duvets, blankets, comforters, or pillows, we always return them to our customers in breathable bags.

2. The vacuum is your friend

Use your vacuum to remove dust and dirt from your couch or chairs. You can even use a soft bristled brush to gently loosen stubborn crumbs from the fabric. While many people use steam cleaners to wash their couches, be sure to check the fabric care tag to see what your manufacturer recommends. If you miss this step, you might void the warranty.

3. Don’t guess about clean

As you switch over from your winter fabrics and into your spring ones, be sure that you’re only storing clean items. We’re all guilty of forgetting a simple splash of white wine on a throw pillow or an unintentional drip of coffee on a cozy blanket, but some of these stains, especially the sneaky ones you can’t see, can damage your clothing as it sits and even resurface over time. Sugar is the biggest culprit for browning over time.

As always, we’re happy to help you with your spring cleaning! Those words are music to your ears, aren’t they? We‘ll even come and collect your items, like that giant cozy rug the dog uses as her nap spot and the kids use for theatre seating during movie marathons. Contact us here and let us know how we can help!
