Ode to Summer Wedding Dresses
It’s time for our annual ode to the summer wedding. There’s a reason that people call summer “wedding season”. Well, there are actually many reasons. We live in Canada, which means that if you’d like nice, reasonably reliable, weather for your wedding, your window is rather limited (we’re not complaining, just stating a fact). It’s often easier for people to travel in the summer, helping those out of town guests. Flowers are plentiful. Days are longer. Fashion choices are wider. Okay, we’ll stop.
All in all, summer is a great time to get married (even though we would say the same thing about fall, winter, and spring — did we mention that we love weddings?). As wedding gown cleaning and preservation specialists in Toronto, the summer is definitely our busy season. More weddings means more dresses coming through our doors and we couldn’t be happier about it.
We see the biggest variety in wedding dresses in the summer, giving us the most opportunity to gush about them. From strapless ball gowns to sleek bias cuts, summer brings out some incredible wedding gowns. Here are a few wedding gowns catching our eye this summer:

Simple silhouettes with sheer sections
We’ve been seeing a lot of a-line dresses with plunging necklines, open sides, and deep backs covered in sheer fabric. The look is stunning! One of the main things we love about it is that the sheer fabric doesn’t look like an afterthought to make the dress more modest. It is 100% a part of the design and gives incredible texture.

Every year, we certainly see a handful of non-white wedding gowns (aside from cultures where white isn’t a tradition – those gowns deserve an entire post to themselves!). This year, we’ve been seeing a lot more gold tones in wedding gowns and we’re in love. Talk about show stopping!

Boho certainly isn’t a new trend in weddings, but where flower crowns have dropped off in popularity, boho-inspired wedding gowns have picked up! We’ve been seeing belled sleeves, crocheted trains, and even fringe lately. The best parts about boho wedding gowns really are the details. There’s so much room to play around with fabrics and textures in this style, adding romance with every step along the way.
