Spring Fashion Must-Haves

Last week, we took a look at some ways to revamp our living spaces this spring, which left us feeling totally inspired to look for other areas that might need a little refreshing of their own. This week, we tackle one of our favourite places in the home: the closet. We try to make it a semi-annual event to delve deep inside our closets, removing things that we don’t need or want anymore, storing items we love away for another season, and making room for inevitable new purchases. With spring cleaning on the go, household makeovers in the works, and warmer weather peeking its head in on us, now is the perfect time to take a look at that closet again and make sure it’s ready for the season!

This spring, we are focusing on restocking our wardrobes with some essentials.  Currently, we’re on the lookout for the following spring staples:

1. The Perfect T-shirt:

Everyone has their favourite T; it’s soft, fits just right, and can go from day to night in a pinch. Unfortunately, T-shirts are also prone to wear and tear, pilling or staining from wearing them as much as we do. So, this spring, we’re getting rid of all the ones we don’t wear anymore and investing in one or two that we love. When something is so versatile, we think it’s worth it to go for quality over quantity.  Besides, you always end up wearing your favourite one anyways.

2. The Moto Jacket:

Moto jackets don’t seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon. We love that we can throw one on over the most casual of outfits and suddenly, we are ready to head downtown or out for dinner. This is another item we think is worth investing in; a good moto jacket will become your best friend. We are particularly drawn to these ones:

Leather Scuba Jacket, Vince (available at Nordstrom)

Veda Leather Jacket, for Madewell

Motorcycle jacket, Zara

Pst! If you sprung for a nice leather moto jacket, make sure to bring it into Parkers when you need that leather cleaned!

3. The Wide-Leg Trouser:

Trust us on this one: Culotte’s and wide-legged trousers are in it to win it this spring and you don’t have to be a six-foot tall supermodel to pull them off either. If you’re on the shorter side, pick a pair with a leaner flare and a higher waist. Throw on your cutest heels and you’ll have us all thinking your legs go on for miles.

4. The Shirt Dress:

This shirt dress is another staple item that is well-worth considering. Sure, we could keep that one we got a few years ago and be just fine, but when we can wear it so many different ways, why not bring the shirt-dress into spring 2014 with us?

5. The Tea-Length Skirt:

Falling in between the midi and maxi-skirts, the tea-length skirt is a perfectly feminine touch for spring. We can’t wait to throw our perfect moto over it and head to brunch with our friends this weekend.
