Trendsetting Commuters

City transit is a melting pot of sorts. Students mix with the business crowd, straight-edged with the artistic, neatly coiffed with the electric-blue-dyed. Heck, they might even share a bench on their morning commute! In Toronto, we like to ride the TTC and see all of the different styles out and about on their way to work or school.

In New York, photographer Angela Pham and Annie Georgia Greenburg, writer for Refinery 29, went on a hunt for the city’s trendiest commuters and we love the way that they captured so many diverse trend-setters sharing the platform.

Trendy Commuter wearing a draped patterned shawl

Akuol appears to have walked right off the runway and into the underground with this draped patterned shawl.

Trendy Commuter wearing a fedora

George looks dashing in his fedora as he demonstrates a special city talent: balancing on the subway while reading the paper.

Trendy Commuter sporting a leather jacket and an Alexander Wang purse

Lauren achieves the modern ‘Downtown Girl’ look by pairing a leather jacket with an Alexander Wang purse

Trendy Commuter rocking the monochromatic look

Dustin successfully pulls-off the monochromatic look, which we adore!

While we’re on the subject of transit fashion, have you had a chance to watch the video that The New York Times put together to document unique style on the L Train? This particular train runs from New York to Williamsburg in Brooklyn, one of New York’s more diverse and eclectic neighbourhoods, and the short documentary discusses why this special route attracts such interesting style. Watch the video below:

All of this trendy commuter talk’s got us thinking about Toronto’s transit styles. Where on the TTC do you think we’d find the most fashionable people? Queen Street West into Parkdale? Bloor Street through Yorkville? Yonge and Dundas?

No matter what transit route you take, you’ll surely come home with some of that dust we associate with the underground. Let us take care of it for you! We offer dry cleaning services in Toronto and we’ll even pickup and drop off your items at no extra charge!
