What to Wear On A Getaway: Women’s Essentials

Last week, we gave the men some tips for planning their weekend getaway wardrobes and, as promised, we have some help for the ladies today! Now, we are realistic and know that “I only need one pair of shoes,” is about as true as, “I’ll just have one bite of your dessert,” so we are going with five essentials instead of three in an attempt to help you stick to that carryon.

The biggest trick with packing everything you need for a weekend getaway in a carryon is simple planning. If you start by opening your closet and going through, piece by piece, asking yourself whether you would want the option of wearing each item, you’ll end up packing half of your closet. After all, you love your clothes, so of course you can imagine a scenario where you might need them! If you’re only going away for the weekend, literally plan each outfit, knowing that you can swap a few things out if you need to. No excuses!

As you’re planning these outfits, here are five weekend getaway essentials to make sure you pack.

Small Cross Shoulder Bag

Weekend getaways often mean exploring a new place. Whether you’ve escaped to the heat or to another major city, you’re going to be walking a lot and lugging around a giant tote is just plain painful. A huge plus for only bringing one purse is that its colour is going to help you pack the rest of your clothing because everything will have to go with this one “always with you” item.

Your Favourite Jeans

Just like in the men’s post, every single getaway requires an awesome pair of jeans. If you’re at the cottage, you’ll live in them, but even if you’re heading somewhere hot, a nice pair of jeans while you’re in transit will be a welcome departure from dresses.

A Hat

One of the less glamorous ways to pack lightly is to go easy on the hair tools and make dry shampoo your best friend. Going casual? Bring a ball cap. The beach? Toss in a wide brimmed hat!

A Sweater

You might think that this is cold getaway specific, but it isn’t. Even a resort down south can have cool evenings or have the AC turned up a little too high. If you are heading somewhere cold, resist bringing more than one sweater, as they take up a ton of space and you really won’t miss having options for the few days you’re there. What you will miss is the extra pair of shoes you didn’t have room for.

Your Little Black Dress (Or Jumpsuit)

This one is a no brainer. You never know when you’ll need a dress or jumpsuit. It doesn’t have to be black, but it does need to be clean, pressed, and ready for a night out!
